castles
Medieval castles were easy to defend because of the moats that were surrounding them. The moats usually had sea creatures like sharks, alligators, and waste (trash). If you wanted to get across, you would walk across a draw bridge that was made of wood and held up by chains. The castles also had army's to protect the castle just in case someone tried to attack. The keep was a tower and the last place of the defense tower.
The gate house was built at the gate to help reinforce the castles defenses at its weakest point. Originally, castles were made of wood and timber, but then they started to be made of stone to make them stronger. The poorest people did all of the work and could never reach anything hire than what they were. An example of a famous castle is the Cite de Carcassonne. This was started by the Romans and is the most famous castle in France.
